This is our current project in progress: a new custom home just South of Calgary, AB.

Exterior walls: 14" Durisol (now branded Nexcem) ICF with an R-Value of R21. Above grade the Durisol walls will additionally be insulated with another layer of Roxul R22 insulation, finshed off with Gutex Multiplex woodfibre boards and a ventialated solid wood siding, made from Larch sourced from a small community forest in the Central Kootenays. The total R-Value for the exterior walls will be R45 with substantial thermal mass on the inside of the walls.

Interior walls: 8" Durisol / Nexcem ICF forms and 4.5" clay bricks.

Floor between basement and main floor: Suspended concrete slab with vaulted ceiling, exclusively built by Tennengau Timberworks. Built from used railroad rails. This construction is incredibly strong and will easily support your 9ft concert grand piano and essentially turn the basement into a tornado shelter!

Roof: Heavy-timber construction made from BC-sourced Douglas Fir timbers with 2" thick Douglas Fir paneling as the visible ceiling.

Windows and exterior doors: Custom-made solid wood by Gradwohl in Austria. The windows are triple glazed with an insulation U-value of 0.7 W/m²K.

More pictures to come as the project progresses.
